Graying Hair And The Pill? Can A Pill Stop Graying Hair?
So pondering my future with a mass of graying hair, I sat watching with curiosity about a so called “pill” that could actually stop my gray hair in its tracks.
As I watched the newscast, the announcer gleefully mentioned that as we age, we produce less and less of an enzyme called catalese. Apparently without this enzyme, our bodies produce more hydrogen peroxide which in turn bleaches our hair before it grows out. Or more bluntly, causes those pesky, wiry, unruly and annoying gray hairs that seem to sprout faster than your normal hair growth.
Now comes the miracle “pill”. The developer of this pill thought that if you put more catalese back into the body then perhaps the growth of gray hairs would slow down and even be replaced by our natural hair color.
I have not tried the pill but it sounds enticing and if and when I do, I will be sure to report back with my findings. If it works for me, then it will work for just about anyone. My own hair seems to gray before I reach my car when leaving the salon and it is becoming increasingly frustrating. So much so that I have actually contemplated (gasp!) letting it all go gray.
Planning out my schedule 3 to 4 weeks in advance and wondering “will my hair be sprouting before the event?” is annoying at its best and extremely aggravating at worst. So I have been having my own internal “middle age” struggle” with my graying hair and will use just about any excuse to delay the inevitable.
The pill is a supplement which is not approved by the FDA so this is not a yay or nay for the pill. Without having tried it, it would be difficult to say either way. These claims may or may not be true. Sometimes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what works for one does not necessarily work for another but hey, walk a mile in my shoes first and then decide if it is worth a shot.
So is there really a magical cure for graying hair? Maybe yes or maybe no but the thought of a future with a full head of gray is a difficult pill (no pun intended) to swallow not matter how you slice it!
